Mrs. Hubbard's Weekly Message

Welcome to 2024 Bell Staff & Families

For some folks the transition to 2024 does not resemble much change from 2023, but others of you are setting new year's resolutions and goals based on some reflections, challenges, hopes and dreams for your future. We educators are just as human: reflecting on what went well and what shifts we can make to be better humans, better school employees, better parents, better significant others and better contributors to the community.

2023 was hard. The amount of challenges that staff, students and families faced felt unbearable at times. Yet people kept showing up. The challenges were so great I could see the impact on the social emotional and physical health of students and staff, student grades and attendance, and staff attendance. And our school culture was impacted. Why is this important?

We are a community of 60 staff and 720 students. Keeping our community together requires help from everyone. We have a collective responsibility to build each other up, support one another and hold each other accountable. I need your help. We have to be willing to communicate, listen and problem solve together.

Despite the many challenges, we had highlights during the 2023 fall school year that we want to remind you all about…

  1. Our music students had several performances around San Diego County and they became well known as a music program.

  2. Our athletic program has grown and our Boys and girls Basketball teams, and Girls and Boys track teams made it to the championship finals.

  3. We started our 1st Balletflorico Club

  4. We had auditions for an upcoming production of Disney’s Aladdin

  5. We had multiple motivational speaker assemblies to inspire and encourage students

  6. Our MeCha Club went to the SDSU Conference and represented as the only middle school

  7. Our Black Students went to the SDCOE Black Student Summit

  8. We had several mentor clubs included FANCY, Boys to Men, and Youth Empowerment

We have a lot of other things planned for 2024. Please read our weekly smores, our monthly newsletter and listen to telephone messages as we use this to keep families up-to-date.

Being in a community is important, and it is hard work. We have huge expectations for all.

We have to grow and be better for ourselves, our students and our community.

My commitment to Bell is to take a step back and re-establish care and the importance of healing, learning and growing to be a better community school.

I want folks to be heard, felt, and acknowledged. I want us to restore our connections to self and each other, to Bell, and our community. I believe we can better support our students academically when this happens.

I hope you will join me on this journey and thank you.

Love Dr. Precious Hubbard

The journey has begun.
