Team

Congratulations to Bell Middle School’s Bell Blazers, the first ever Middle School girl’s baseball team in the nation!

Anvil of Hope had the privilege of hosting this all-girl team to their first-ever College SDSU baseball game this year. The power of real-life career inspiration on the ground with real life players is an unforgettable experience with lasting impact on our young sports stars. The Aztecs baseball game was a definite home run, thoroughly enjoyed by the entire squad and getting to meet the players on the field post-game and getting their own autographs as souvenirs was a huge hit. Their smiles and excitement spoke volumes and is all they needed to bond as a team and experience baseball life. Attending as fans, broadens their perspective, not only as players, but as first-time game attendees.

Our vision is to continue being a portal of access to the pursuit of Minor and Major league baseball career/experiences and also to provide mentoring on and off the field. This all with the objective of continuing to strengthen their belief in themselves.

Anvil of Hope will also be planning a trip to a Padres game as well as college and AAA games, so that they have the full experience as they develop as players.

The idea was first discussed by Principal Precious Jackson-Hubbard and Vicky Zien, Founder of Anvil of Hope, a 501c3, which has a goal of strengthening our community by ensuring all youth have equal opportunity to dream, thrive, and prosper.

The team launched in April of 2020 with 13 girls.  Because they are trail blazers, the name Bell Blazers, seemed appropriate.  Anvil of Hope provided a Head Coach, Jim Becher, as well as assistant coaches, practice uniforms, new shoes, and equipment.

(Note: There are girls’ baseball teams scattered throughout the country, but our volunteer Head Coach has done some research, and hasn’t found another middle school team.)
